SAN FRANCISCO SOUL & BLUES
The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, was formed in San Francisco, in the year 2007 by guitarist/bandleader Anthony Paule. Inspired by Soul and Blues music of the 1960s and ‘70s, this dramatic, impressive, horn-driven soul slammin’ powerhouse, creates and records their original music, while staying true to the origins of this African American art form. APSO’s riveting vocalist Willy Jordan, channels the raw vulnerability, and gritty, high-energy spirit of soul music. Relatable, empathetic songwriting; pure heart-sung vocals, and supportive, passionate instrumental performances form the backbone of this band. APSOhas their own sound, but if comparisons must be made those which come to mind are Al Green, Bobby Bland, Bobby Womack, David Ruffin, Tyrone Davis, and the Stax & Motown record labels.
During their nineteen years together, APSO has recorded and released six singles and seven albums. The recordings earned them twenty BMA (Blues Music Awards) nominations, as well as coveted positions on Sirius XM Bluesville, and music critics’ “best of” lists for Down Beat Magazine, and Living Blues Magazine.
APSO is currently promoting the release of their latest album “What Can We Do?”. Released July 24, on the Nola Blue Records label …can be heard on any of the streaming platforms.
Van Morrison, invited Anthony to play on his 2026 blues release “Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge”. This September, Anthony will be in London, performing his second residency this year with Morrison.
We are so excited to announce the release of our new album, and our first on the prestigious Nola Blue Record label. What Can We Do? consists of 12 tracks (CD) and 11 tracks (vinyl LP) of which all but one are brand new original compositions. The APSO returned to our favorite recording studio, 25th Street Recording in Oakland, CA. As always, this album was recorded live in the studio with our four piece horns section, lead vocals, and rhythm section playing together! The only overdubs are our three wonderful background singers, and percussion instruments. The first single "Secret" has been playing on Sirius XM's Bluesville chanel for eight straight months! APSO NOMINATED FOR BAND OF THE YEAR
The APSO was nominated for a Blues Music Award, in the “Band Of The Year” category. Although we didn't win the category, we had a great time in Memphis as usual! Congratualations to the Tedeschi Trucks Band on their win! This brings us to a total of 20 BMA nominations! With no wins, that makes for a perfect record of 20 for 20!
